Well, we have finally gotten someone at the apartment complex to try to fix the issues with our cabinets that are under the kitchen sink. The maintenance man that was here, pulled out two layers of repairs, the first layer was the original bottom of the cabinet. The top layer was were someone had put down another layer over the original bottom, then we had a third layer that was done a while back.
You can just imagine how yucky it was under the sink.
See the video here:
As of today, Thursday May 27th, the cabinets still look the way they do in this video, though maybe a little worse since the pipes are still dripping every so often.
Following my doctor's orders was not something I thought would cause a problem for my pets. We were battling ring worm in our house with the kittens. The doctor thought some of my spots were not ringworm but could be scabies, which is a very common skin issue, and the protocol in the office was to treat for that first and then test further if the spots remained. Because of the number of spots I had at the time, the doctor told me that I may need to treat my skin twice, 2 weeks apart.
During those 2 treatments, we lost multiple kittens, all of which would lay on me most of the time. Now, I do need to explain how the treatments were done. Before bed I would put the cream on, from my hairline down, with the exception of my lower girly bits. Once I was coated, I put on socks, pants and a long sleeve t-shirt, to keep from getting the cream on anything else, then I went straight to bed. Morning, I would go directly into the bathroom and shower before doing anything else.
Because I was so diligent with using the cream, I never connected the two issues together. The cream and the cats. Never. Until Chunk. We lost her a few days after my second treatment. I was devastated. I cried for days. Chunk was my baby. The cats that we lost all had a seizure and then quickly went down hill from there. So I searched online for more information. What I found made me cry even harder. The number one cause of seizures in cats was the cream I used for my skin issues.
I am sharing this information for one reason. Because there are no mention of this cream causing problems with animals on the label. It says don't let children get to it, but nothing about causing harm to our pets. I am hoping that talking about this issue, that many people experience but don't discuss it just incase someone things badly about them, or think they are dirty or don't care for themselves. I am hoping that this helps spread the word on how dangerous it is to our pets.
The little buggers are growing again. Ick and Gremlin are starting to eat hard cat food. That doesn't mean they won't still try to nurse, because they do, but they are starting to be more independent and move around more.
It's that time again. Time for my monthly Melaleuca order. I love their cleaners and have been expanding what I order to their other lines, like makeup.
Have I mentioned lately just how much of a dork I really am? Well, I finally went and did it. I finally have an actual wire soap cutter and loaf splitter now. I am so excited to make soap again too.
I don't think I have made any soap since I moved to Tennessee and I am jonesing for a fix. A soap making fix that is. I struggle to cut anything straight, shoot I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler most of the time. I feel like a grown up now with my special soapy toys.
I ordered the soap cutter and loaf splitter from Etsy. The soap cutter is Soap Cutter and the loaf splitter is Loaf Splitter. This is not sponsored and I do not get anything for anyone else ordering the same items.
My baby is sick. Unfortunately, we did end up losing her that night. I cried like crazy and will miss her for a long time coming. At the time, we didn't realize what the issue was, but we have since figured that out and it will be discussed in a future video.
2 large cans of crushed pineapple + enough water to equal 6 1/2 cups
6 cups of sugar
2 boxes of pectin (approximately 9 tablespoons plus a little extra)
1 Tablespoon of butter (this helps with foaming)
Start with your pineapple in a heavy bottomed pot. Mix 1/4 cup of the sugar with the pectin in a bowl, then add this mixture to the pineapple. Adding a small about of the sugar here helps prevent the pectin from clumping up.
Bring this to a rolling boil that you can not stir down.
Add the rest of the sugar and the butter.
Bring this back up to a rolling boil that you can not stir down and boil for 1 minute stirring constantly.
Turn off the heat. This is where you decide how to preserve the jam. I canned mine so it would be good for longer period of time.
Fill the hot jars with hot jam to a 1/4" of headspace. I added the filled jars to the water bath canner, then brought the water up to a rolling boil.
Once it was up to a rolling boil, I let it process for 5 minutes + the altitude adjustment. For me this is another 5 minutes since I am over 1000 feet in altitude.
After the time was up, I let them sit in the canner, with the heat off, for an additional 5 minutes. Then removed them to sit on a towel on the counter until the next day. Then I tested to make sure all the jars sealed, made labels for them and put them in my pantry to use.
What is your favorite use for pineapple jam? I have tried it in PB&Js, yummy, and think it would make a good cover over ice cream. Kinda banana split like.
Have you ever had that moment when you feel like you should know how to do something, but you really don't and you get very frustrated trying to figure it all out? Yeah, this was one of those days. Well, it was actually days it took to finally get something that was usable.
My new embroidery machine is in and I am wanting to make something for everyone for Easter.
Well, we had a surprise this day. As luck would have it, I had just brought the bin out to put Molly and her babies in there, when Mao Mao gave us a surprise litter of 5 new babies. Squirmy little cute things that they were.
Mama Mao Mao was looking good with the new babies with Molly helping get them all going well.
