Waverly is walking! I can't believe time has gone by so quickly that she is already walking now.
She is very much her mama's mini. She is very dramatic (gets that from Skye) and loves food and toys.
Now that she is walking, there will be a lot of running around in our house.

It is not always easy to entertain little ones in a car. Waverly, just like Skye, did not like being in a rear-facing car seat. Both would scream bloody murder during car rides. Now that she is facing-forward, it is much easier to entertain her.
And she loves cameras. She is my cheeseball kiddo.

While trying to rearrange items in the fridge, I accidentally spilled a container that had beef and gravy in it.
I still swear that Athos bumped into me on purpose to make me spill it. Either way, it was spilled down the front of the fridge, all over the floor, and inside the fridge.
I was trying to clean it up as quickly as possible, but Athos beat me to it in some areas. That's when I noticed he was wearing the gravy too (this is why I think he bumped me). He had to be standing between me and the fridge in order to get gravy on his head when the container fell. Athos is our four-legged garbage disposal (if we let him).

We drink a lot of coffee in this house, but we also like tea.
Recently, Skye has been requesting that I get a selection of fruit teas and herb teas.
Since there were quite a few varieties of tea in the house, I created a tea drawer.
Each compartment has a type of tea in it, whether it is Earl Grey or ginger tea, each tea has a place and now it is easy to see, at a glance, if I need to restock or buy more of any one tea,

Growing up, one of the things I could count on being at every family party was French onion dip and chips. It seemed like everyone in my family ate it and was kind of a family tradition.
Now, we don't always use plain chips with our dip. One thing we like with French Onion Dip is cheese Doritos. I'm not sure why, but the combination is very yummy.
Since it was a family tradition, I had to let Waverly try them. I started with just a plain cheese Dorito. After she seemed to like the chips (she kept eating them anyway), I added a little dip to a chip. She was in love from there.

While at the pool, I got a pretzel with cheese sauce. Something that Waverly hadn't tried yet.
I find it so much fun to give Waverly opportunities to try different types of foods. She does love food, hence her nickname Munch.
She very much enjoyed eating and wearing the pretzel with cheese.

The weekend after the 4th of July, we took a trip to the pool. We didn't have all of the big guy's kids, but it was still a fun trip for us.
The Big Guy's youngest talked him into going down the water slide with her. I had to record that for sure.

Waverly is getting so big now. Here she is already 16 months old. She has enough teeth to eat most foods now and is getting around just fine despite her clubbed foot. It won't be long til she is off and running once she figures out the whole balance thing a little better.

I'm not sure why, but in my family sour items are a right of passage for the youngins in our family.
If I can take my family's word, they got me with mustard and lemon when I was a baby. Ever since, I have loved lemons. I tend to eat them with salt sprinkled on it, so I don't do it very often because I already have damage to my teeth.
Skye has loved lemons since she was a baby and now it seems that Waverly is going to like them as well.

We are that one weird family that lights sparklers during the day. I promise we have a reason, mainly because the big guy's youngest had to go home that night before it would be dark enough to see them better.
Next year, Waverly should be old enough to enjoy the pretty colors too.
They still had a blast, so I guess that is all that matters.

Athos doesn't like loud noises. We have been trying to break him of the habit of freaking out when it is this time of year and so far, while not completely gone, he does handle it much better than he used to.
It is still a little funny when he over reacts to things like pops and champagne poppers though.

We didn't do much for the 4th of July this year, since the big guy had to work.

One of the things I remember growing up was snakes on the 4th of July. It seemed like we always had them even when we didn't do much else for the 4th of July.
When I was growing up in Chicago, we lived in an area where we didn't do much fireworks ourselves. The main reason was that two of our neighbors actually sold fireworks to the ballparks in the area. Every year, the two houses would compete to see who had the better fireworks display. I don't know if those neighbors are still in my old neighborhood, but those days are still pretty fresh in my mind.

I have seen others use this cleaner and have had wonderful luck with it. My experience isn't quite that wonderful, though I will continue to try it on other things to see if I have better luck.
During the construction, the counters that were put in were left with rust ring marks in a couple of spots and this just bugged the crap out of me. I mean, who wants to see that on what is supposed to be new counters.
I don't know if the stain was too old by the time we were allowed back into the apartment, or what, but it didn't really help. I have not given up on this cleaner yet.

Waverly is getting bigger and braver by the minute, or so it seems.
In this video, she is determined to stand on her toys. She is taking some steps, though not completely walking yet. She is also saying more and more words, though the clearest ones to understand seem to be No, Mama, Nana, and yeah.
That little girl is my savior.

Before the remodel, the majority of my utensils were stuck in different drawers. There wasn't one big enough to hold all of our silverware and utensils together. We also only have one bigger drawer, the other two drawers we had were maybe half the size, if that.
I can't even begin to explain just how frustrating it was trying to find a specific tool or utensil. It meant looking in all the drawers to see which one it had fit into the last time it was used and washed. This just led to chaos, confusion, and wasted time.
With the construction being done, I was determined to find a better solution. I found a large lazy susan on Amazon. I believe it is a 20-inch lazy susan for, I believe, under $30 dollars. I didn't mind spending that price because that was the most expensive part of the system. I then bought a roll of patterned contact paper from Walmart and made use of the empty formula cans, toddler formula cans, and coffee cans. These of course were free since we had already purchased them.
I took the labels off the cans, washed them thoroughly, and let them dry completely. I then covered the cans with the patterned contact paper, put the lids on the bottom, and filled the cans with the utensils that we had and used.
I love the finished product.

The construction on our apartment is finally complete. It has been a rough couple of months here including having my computer crash, losing all the files on me external hard drive, and just issues with things not being fixed correctly.
This is footage I got of our electric panel. The breakers kept popping and sparking and just completely going out. It was scary not knowing if the panel was going to catch on fire in the middle of the night.
Thankfully, that didn't happen and we were able to get the breaker box fixed within a day, but the concerns certainly made sleeping that night difficult.

When Skye was growing up, I would take her to have pictures taken, usually sometime in the spring. One of the Walmarts near us had a studio in it, so we would go and book an appointment to have them done.
Here in Tennessee, I haven't found a place to do that yet, so we took some ourselves. Miss Waverly wasn't always cooperative so it made for some funny pictures.

One of the many fun things about being the grandma is that I can sugar a kid up and then let mom handle it. lol.
Seriously though, since we all live together we would all have to deal with the hyper, screaming child. No one volunteers for that and I am no different.

Our stove top has always bugged me. It looks like it never gets cleaned.
Back in Indiana, I used a pumice stone to clean my stove top, which surprisingly enough is the same model I have in the apartment. The problem was finding a pumice stone. I just never thought about it until I was looking at the stove.
I was pretty happy when I found pumice cleaning stones on TEMU, though I wasn't sure what the quality was going to be like. I was pleasantly surprised. I used the stone on the stove top and was amazed.

For Waverly's first birthday, we wanted to throw a big party. Sadly, the majority of my family and friends are about 500 miles away, roughly, some even farther.
I was going to have her party as an online Facebook live, but sadly the apartment a reck from packing for the renovations.
Then I thought, why not do something for the kids since Waverly is small, there really isn't going to be much she can participate in at one.
After much thought, we decided to rent a hotel room for two days and let the kids play in the pool. It would be Waverly's first time in anything bigger than a tub, and Skye loves water.

It's only a few days off from Waverly's first birthday. We planned a separate day to celebrate so today we are opening birthday presents sent from Nana Karen (my mom, Waverly's great-grandmother).

So Waverly is nearing that one year mark. It is almost time for her to be off formula and on whole milk. That means its time for her to go from bottle to sippy cup or regular cup. The nutritionist at the Waverly's last WIC appointment gave us a cup for her to practice with.
We put a little water into it first and Waverly seemed confused when the water came out, but she picked up on it quickly. I added a small amount of milk to the cup for her to try then. We will work with the cup and Waverly so that she will know what to do with a cup pretty quickly (hopefully).

Skye, despite having a baby young, is a very good mother. Lately, she has taken to steaming and cooking fresh vegetables for the baby to try. Thankfully too, Waverly doesn't seem to be the picky eater her mom was growing up.
Skye had peeled and cut up fresh carrots. Then boiled them until they are soft. She lets the cool down to room temperature before she gives them to Waverly so she doesn't burn her tongue. So far, she has made butternut squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, and cauliflower. For carrots she boils them in either water or chicken broth, while she usually steams the other veggies in my instant pot.
I can't begin to explain how proud of her I am. Skye is cooking veggies that she never ate growing up, because I never ate them growing up. She is expanding her food options and making sure that Waverly eats healthy foods. That doesn't mean Waverly will never eat junk food, like the Riesen I gave her in a previous video, but we all try to eat a well rounded meal whenever possible.

One of the many things that frustrate me with the apartment being half packed for renovations is not being able to find half of my things including spices.
So I found these shelves on Amazon that are magnetic (I have them stuck to my fridge, but they also have screws to be used wall mounted as well). You can find them here. My OCD wouldn't let me get away with the miss mash of jars I had, plus I had multiples of some. So I ordered, also from Amazon, a set of 66 glass jars. You can find them here.
I absolutely love them. I did have one issue though, some of the jars broke during transit. Thankfully it was only a few and I have no doubt I will order more as needed.

I was getting ready to eat a Riesen candy and Waverly tried to snatch it out of my hand. So I broke a piece of the outside chocolate off and gave it to her to try. She loved it and wanted more.
For anyone not familiar with the candy, Riesen is a delicious dark chocolate candy on the outside and rich chewy chocolate caramel on the inside for a double chocolate indulgence. All you need is one good Riesen.
These pictures were taken after Waverly got her ears pierced. Boy, was she mad.
She kept sticking her tongue out of the side of her pacifier and it was very cute.

Skye has been wanting to get Waverly's ears pierced for some time now. My ears were pierced when I was a baby and Skye got her first set around 6 months old.
The reasoning is that its much easier to care for them when the child is little then fight with them later over the cleaning portion. Babies aren't going to remember the small amount of pain from getting their ears pierced either.
So the problem was finding a place to have it done. We had a Claire's by us in the old mall in town, but the mall has been renovated into a strip mall instead of a traditional mall, and Claire's was one that did not move back into the renovated building.
I tried calling a tattoo and piercing shop, but they can't do it until the child is 7 years old. So we took a trip up to Nashville and got her ears pierced in a Claire's there.

It seems like a right of passage, or a major milestone, when babies go from drinking formula to drinking regular milk. The Big Guy and I were in Waffle House for our regular weekly breakfast date and since Skye was at school, we had miss Waverly with us.
She didn't want to be left out, so she ordered a kids milk and some scrambled eggs. She enjoyed her scrambled eggs, but the regular milk kind of threw her for a loop for a second. Then she really liked it. I only gave her a few sips, we didn't want to mess up her stomach after all, but she absolutely loved it.

Since moving to Tennessee, I haven't gotten to participate in many of my family events. This year, Big Guy asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him that I wanted to go to my family's Christmas (my mom's side does Christmas in January so that Christmas Eve & Day are reserved for family or families that live together as well in-law parties).
While I didn't enjoy the drive, since my stomach was giving me issues, I certainly enjoyed the scenary on the way there and back and was happy to see my family. I haven't seen most of them since my Grandma passed away right before my 39th birthday. Her funeral was on my birthday actually so that was the last time I've seen most of them. My mom came down when Waverly was born and she has taken a few vacations in Nashville, which is about a 90 minute drive from me, so we have seen my mom and stepfather recently.
I didn't film much at the party, mainly for everyone else's privacy, but also because I wanted to enjoy spending time with my family since we were leaving to come back home the next morning.

Anybody who knows me, knows I am not a big fan of winter. It's not the cold that I hate, or even the snow. I've seen many beautiful country scenes created from snow on trees and the ground.
What I dislike about winter is the mess. I grew up in the Chicago Land area of Illinois and late spent many years in Indiana. Winter is a part of life and there was no avoiding it. That meant for months on end, we were tracking in snow, leaving wet boots or snow gear, and dragging that wetness through the house. And that's just what I drag in. Then it's the kids and the animals. The dog goes out, tracks through the snow then brings some of that back inside with him. The kid then does the same. It seems like a never-ending cycle of mopping up nasty wetness. Yuck. That's what I hate about winter and one of the reasons I am enjoying Tennessee life.
We don't get much snow down here. It is February and I leave my apartment most days without a coat on. This video shows all the snow we have gotten so far this year. So I got my pretty but didn't have the mess.

Baby girl is growing way too fast. Now she is pulling herself up, I call it her latest trick.

I have completed quilting all of the rows at this point and have combined the first three rows together. I will be working on completing the joining of the remaining 6 rows of the quilt, in 3 rows groups. After the three groups of three rows together, I will then connect the three sections together.
After that, I will be working on binding the quilt using the excess fabric left over from the backing material. I made strips of the left over backing fabric and connected all of the strips together. I did have excess fabric left over when I was finished binding the quilt, so I will use that to bind another quilt as long as I have enough for it.
I did decided to rag the back side of the quilt, since that was just one solid piece for each row. I felt that will give it the option of being reversible, though ragging isn't required for that. I thought it gave the back side of the quilt a little bit of character giving the fabric was a solid color (I used fabric from Keepsake Quilting and it was a black water color fabric that was 108" wide).

Day 3 of working on my stepson's quilt. I have completed all the rows and I am going to quilt each row before connecting the rows together.
I decided to quilt each row individually because I just don't have the space (considering how tornado like our apartment is because of the remodeling) to quilt this all as one big quilt. I made the quilt to be approximately the size of a queen size bed so that the quilt is a good size for my stepson. I will be making my two stepdaughter's quilts the same size and Skye's will be a king size quilt because she has a king size bed at this time.
I decided to make the quilts for my stepchildren at a queen size because as of right now, I am not sure what size their beds are at their mom's house and I wanted them to be a good size for each of the kids. I have already said that if they get bigger beds down the road, I will make them a new quilt or make them new quilts for their own beds when ever they move out of their mom's house (I thought this was a good way to go for them now since they are all still at home).
